Background Investigations
Participation in the DoW HBCU/MI SRIP is contingent upon successfully completing a required background investigation. Participants must receive, at minimum, a favorable interim determination before beginning the internship, and the final background investigation must result in a favorable determination. Applicants should be prepared to respond promptly to all background investigation requests and provide complete and accurate information throughout the process. Delays in completing required background investigation materials may affect a participant’s ability to begin the internship as scheduled.
STEM Academic Disciplines or DoW-relevant Discipline
The program supports academic disciplines relevant to the DoW mission. The disciplines listed are broad categories, and specific majors or fields of study may fall under one or more of these categories—or may not appear on the list. Applicants who are uncertain about whether their discipline qualifies should contact the program help desk for guidance.
