Opportunity: Biochemistry of bacterial cell factories
Opportunity Number:
ARL-SRP-00052
Opportunity Location:
Austin, TX
Opportunity Description:
This position is open to US citizens only. We are seeking a biochemistry student to join our team in a research project focused on chemical identification and strain characterization using advanced analytical techniques. In this role, you will work with mass spectrometry (MS), high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and colorimetric plate reader assays to analyze chemical compounds produced by engineered microbial strains. This project will give you hands-on experience in sample preparation, operation of state of the art systems, and data analysis to characterize metabolites, proteins, or other biomolecules. You will collaborate with researchers to uncover the chemical profiles of different strains, contributing to breakthroughs in biotechnology and synthetic biology.
We welcome applicants with experience in:
•Analytical Chemistry
•Mass Spectrometry (MS)
•High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)
•Metabolomics
•Bioreactors/aerobic fermentations
Some preferred skills include: HPLC, FPLC, protein purification, plate reader assays, aerobic microorganism culture work, media formulations, and microbioreactors. This is an opportunity to grow skillsets in synthetic biology and biomanufacturing in a high caliber research environment.
The expected outcome is a method to “fingerprint” engineered strains in as high throughput as possible to contribute towards predictive biodesign for improved production yields.
Opportunity Skill Set:
