Opportunity: Development of advanced battery materials for extreme environments

Opportunity Number:

ARL-SRP-00055

Opportunity Location:

Adelphi, MD

Opportunity Description:

Lithium-ion batteries are critical to the success of Army missions and security operations. However, extreme environments present major operational challenges, including electrolyte instability, reduced capacity, shortened lifespans, and the risk of thermal runaway. To overcome these vulnerabilities, this project develops highly concentrated electrolytes, advanced anodes and cathodes, and cells engineered for high-voltage (HV) and high-temperature (HT) performance. These new battery materials will be evaluated in full cells to analyze their electrochemical properties and novel chemistries under extreme conditions (~5V and >80°C).

Opportunity Skill Set:

Materials Engineering, Energy Technologies, Chemical Sciences/Engineering, Data Analysis, Mechanical Engineering
